One of the most powerful publicity stunts ever created and performed. Houdini, Blackstone Sr., and several others have created media fervor by performing this stunt. The escapist allows a committee to CLOSELY examine a wooden crate, both inside and out. They can enter the box, rap on all sides, try and move panels, etc., but all is fair (?). The crate has two large, steel weights bolted to the bottom. They are there to help sink the crate quickly into the water, and also act as legs. There are also large holes on each side of the box to allow water to rush inside. Four webbed straps are attached to these two weights, and they in turn are attached to the crane's hook. The manacled performer enters the crate, and the lid is locked in place. If desired, it can even be nailed to the box as well. The crane then lifts the crate high into the air, and out over the water. The intrepid performer gives the "thumbs-up" through one of the holes to say his final farewell to the crowd. Quickly, the crate is lowered into the briny depths and out of sight. The crowd waits in anticipation for one, two, THREE minutes! It's been too long! The signal is given to rescue the escapist, and the crane lifts the crate out of the water. But wait--there is our hero, standing atop the STILL-LOCKED crate, waving to the audience!
Over the years there have been many, many different variations to this classic. Unfortunately, many versions are just plain dangerous. This version was created by Mark Cannon with Safety First in mind, and includes many original concepts. But it is also one of the most examinable crates ever designed. Along with the safeties built into the device, the plans also include important safety information.
One of the most legendary escape stunts, the Water Torture Cell is closely associated with Houdini and incorrectly believed by some to have caused his death. The effect is breathtaking: A set of stocks is examined and the performer's ankles are locked within, using a spectator's locks. The performer is then raised high above an ominous tank filled with water. At the count of three, he is lowered upside down into the tank and locked within using another set of locks from the spectator. A cloth is quickly lowered around the tank as he gasps for air within. Audience members hold their collective breath as they wait, then suddenly at the last possible moment, the performer makes his escape from the watery grave. Paul Osborne has teamed up with escapologist, Mark Cannon, to bring you the only detailed plans of this spectacular stunt. We give you all the information on the tank, the stocks, the lift gantry and the cloth covering. All details are revealed and construction methods are explained in this spectacular set of construction documents.
Never before have there ever been such detailed plans on this famous escape. Houdini presented it and so can you with this improved and totally safe prop. This breathtaking escape features the magician being locked with six examined and innocent padlocks into a previously examined milk can filled with water. He makes his escape from the enclosure in record time. The milk can is ungimmicked and can be examined before and after. Paul Osborne has teamed up with escapologist, Mark Cannon, to bring you this highly detailed plan. It gives you all the information you need to construct it yourself or take the plans to a machine shop. These are the only detailed construction documents on this legendary escape prop that you will find anywhere.
Unquestionably one of the most popular escape/illusions ever created and first made famous by the Houdinis. You know the effect: The performer is handcuffed, tied into a cloth sack, and finally padlocked inside of a wooden packing crate. His assistant then stands on top of the crate and momentarily lifts a curtain. Seconds later it falls, to reveal that she has vanished, and the performer is now standing where she once stood! Next, he quickly unlocks the crate's lid, to discover that his assistant is now enclosed inside of the still-tied cloth sack, and wearing the handcuffs! These beautifully produced plans show you how to build this one yourself. A very nice side-benefit, is that you can actually use the Sub-Trunk to haul your equipment to your show!
